Sunflowers
Welcome to Sunflowers!
Shh, don't tell anyone, but we really are the best class in the school...
We are a fantastic bunch of Year 5s and 6s and our teacher is Miss Lewis. On a Thursday and Friday afternoon, we are taught by Mr Marshall (for Computing), Mr Yates (for PE) and Mrs Blount (for Spellings).
Key reminders:
- PE days are Thursday and Friday, and PE kit should consist of: a plain white t-shirt or polo shirt; plain black shorts, skirt/skort, joggers or leggings; plain black sweatshirt; and trainers or plimsolls.
- Make sure every item of school uniform, and PE kit is clearly named - if things are named, they are usually reunited with their owner, when they go missing.
- All children need to have a water bottle in school - please make sure these only contain water and not fizzy drinks, juice or squash.
- Children should not be wearing make-up, including nail varnish, to school.
- Spelling books must be in school on a Wednesday.
- Reading records must be in school every day.
Homework:
All passwords for online homework should be in your child's reading record.
- Spelling homework is set every week. Our spelling quizzes are every Friday.
- Spelling, grammar and punctuation (SPAG) homework and maths homework are set on a two-week cycle. One week, SPAG homework will be set online on spag.com. The alternate week will be set on maths.co.uk. We anticipate children spend at least a minimum of 30 minutes on this. This home work will be set on a Wednesday and due in the following Wednesday.
- Times tables should also be completed on 'Times Tables Rock Stars' (TTRS).
- We expect children to be reading at home at least 3 times a week and signed by a parent/carer in your child's reading record book - these will be checked each week.

Holocaust Centre Visit
Published 11/12/23, by Helen LewisUKS2 had a very thought-provoking visit today, to the National Holocaust Centre. It really brought the learning we have been doing in school, about the Holocaust, to life. We experienced what life was like for Leo and his family (who were Jewish) in 1938 Germany, through the 'Leo's Journey' exhibition. We heard about the persecution they faced, which culminated in 'The Night of Broken Glass', also known as 'Kristallnacht'. This then led Leo's mother to send him on the Kindertransport, to Britain.
In the afternoon, we then heard from a Holocaust survivor, who talked to use, in a pre-recorded video, about their experience of growing up in Germany and how they too travelled on the Kindertransport, to Britain. We also had the chance to ask some questions.
We ended our visit by spending some time in the Memorial Garden and paying our respects to the 1.5 million children who were murdered, during the Holocaust, by placing a stone onto the ever-growing pile.
What a moving day we have had. Take a look at some of our pictures below...

WWII Experience Day at Perlethorpe
Published 21/11/23, by Helen LewisUKS2 have had a fantastic day at Perlethorpe for a WWII Experience Day, as part of our Discover topic for this term: 'What if we lived through WWII?'
We did an orienteering activity, through which we learnt about some of the planes used during the war; we had a look through the suitcases of some people who had lived during WWII, to find out about their lives; we experienced the billeting process for evacuees; and we also went into an Anderson Shelter - what a wonderful day!
